Speaker soft on slur

I caught a bit of question time in the lower house today. Yes, okay, fine I’m a very boring person. I was appalled at the disgraceful use of the word ‘denier’ by the prime minister and the treasurer. It was only earlier this year that the speaker of the house, Harry Jenkins dismissed an objection by the manager of the opposition, Christopher Pyne that it was a referance to holocaust denialism. Today, Wayne Swan was freely able to say of the opposition; “at heart they are all climate change deniers”. The fact is that some global warming (I’m sick of the term ‘climate change’) proponents have admitted this is how they use the term. As such, it should be ruled unparlimentary with others such as ‘liar’ (which Tony Abbott was forced to withdraw earlier this year). The treasurer also risks offending the growing number of skeptics among the Australian people. The speaker of the house needs to wake up to this.

About Climate Nonconformist

Hi, I'm the climatenonconformist (not my real name), and I am a global warming skeptic, among the few in generation Y. With Australia facing the prospect of a carbon tax, we need to be asking the simple question; where is the evidence that our emissions are causing any dangerous warming?
