Fascism is defined as “a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism”. Christopher Monckton recently saw controversy for suggesting Ross Garnaut had fascist tendancies. While his nazi remarks were out of line, the fascist aspect was apt, for Garnaut and the global warming movement. So how does it fit the fascism definition?
“A dictator having complete power”.
“Emergency responses such as the suspension of democratic processes”- Clive Hamilton.
Scientists have been leaned on by politicians who disagree with them.
Al Gore demands doubt be silenced by suggesting “the debate is over”.
“Government in the future will be based upon … a supreme office of the biosphere”, comprising “specially trained philosopher/ecologists” who “will either rule themselves or advise an authoritarian government of policies based on their ecological training and philosophical sensitivities”- Professor David Shearman.
“Forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism”.
“It is unbefitting of a political leader in this country to hold these views and these associations”- Greg Combet.
“Denialism, a concept that was first widely used, as far as I know, for those who claimed that the Holocaust was a fraud, is the concept I believe we should use”- Robert Manne.
“So the answer to the question of whether climate denialism is morally worse than Holocaust denialism is no, at least, not yet”- Clive Hamilton.
Fortunately, we do not currently live in a fascist society, so these individuals cannot forcibly impose these on us, though they do like to contemplate it.
“Surely it’s time for climate-change deniers to have their opinions forcibly tattooed on their bodies…
Or what about their signed agreement to stand, in the year 2040, lashed to a pole at a certain point in the shallows off Manly?”- Richard Glover.
“Put your strong views to the test by exposing yourselves to high concentrations of either carbon dioxide or some other colourless, odourless gas – say, carbon monoxide”- Jill Singer.
“Regimenting all industry, commerce, etc.”
Cap and Trade/Emissions Trading Scheme.
“Emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism”.
Robert Kennedy Jnr says skeptics should be treated as traitors.
While skeptics may not comprise another race, it is certain we are faced with similar discrimination.
Heidi Cullen of the weather channel suggests skeptics be decertified.
Plus all these examples.
Fascism is alive and well, kept alive by the global warming movement.
