Alarmism over climate refugees

Along with the polar bear, the Maldives are a favourite poster child for the climate activists. Their president Mohamed Nasheed is seen with Julia Gillard at CHOGM.

LARGE Commonwealth countries such as Australia have been warned to prepare for an influx of climate-change refugees as rising sea levels cause small nations to disappear.

Caribbean diplomat Sir Ronald Sanders, a member of the Eminent Persons Group, said he was upset leaders were not urgently working on a plan for the “very serious and grave issue” of climate change, which threatened the existence of small countries in the Pacific and the Caribbean.

“Not only will some of them physically disappear, but in others there will be such severe dislocation of populations that will have to be shifted and shifted to God knows where because nobody has made any plans about what to do if such a tragedy occurs,” he said.

“I think that large countries of the Commonwealth better be prepared for an influx of refugees who will have no choice – either live on a boat on the ocean or find a refugee on somebody else’s shores.”

Would these be the same 50 million climate refugees who were predicted by 2010? Would they be the same ones who Al Gore proclaimed in his dud movie to have already evacuated to New Zealand?

Despite all the carbon dioxide we’ve been spewing into the atmosphere, sea level rise appears to be decelerating. Someone should tell some of these CHOGM delegates that, but I doubt they would want to hear it.

About Climate Nonconformist

Hi, I'm the climatenonconformist (not my real name), and I am a global warming skeptic, among the few in generation Y. With Australia facing the prospect of a carbon tax, we need to be asking the simple question; where is the evidence that our emissions are causing any dangerous warming?

One Response to Alarmism over climate refugees

What you don’t hear about with President Mohamed Nasheed is about the population explosion that has occurred on the Maldives, and also about the many new International airports they are to build there, to go with the tourist development there attracting eastern, mainly cashed up Chinese tourists.
Maybe we can’t hear him because he is still wearing the scuba gear from when he held a session of parliament underwater as a stunt to reinforce his demands on the developed nations
