The vote in the senate was a mere formality. With the greens controlling the upper house, the carbon tax was always going to pass. However, it wasn’t until is did actually pass that the true magnitude of this betrayal of the Australian people could be viewed.
Will the rest of the world follow our dangerous lead on this one? Al Gore thinks so, calling it a ” pivotal corner in the collective effort to solve the climate crisis”. He’s actually contradicted Gillard and Combet on this one, who insist the rest of the world is moving. The next bit is a joke surely, not that I find it in any way funny.
As the world’s leading coal exporter, there’s no doubt that opposition to this legislation was fierce. But through determination and commitment, the voice of the people of Australia has rung out loud and clear.
The Herald Sun poll shows three out of four opposing it. Our voice has been denied. And what I find particularly astounding is the insinuation that the ordinary people who oppose it are protecting their interests in coal. Why does this guy continually talk about things he knows nothing about?
