Greg Combet thinks this is a good thing.
Climate Change Minister Greg Combet says the Australian Labor Party’s commitment to tackle climate change predates that of the Greens.
Speaking at the ALP national conference today during a session on the environment, Mr Combet rejected claims by opponents of the carbon tax that the Greens were controlling the federal government’s agenda.
He said Labor’s commitment to tackle climate change dated back to 1988, when it was first on the party’s platform.
The carbon pollution tax was in the grand tradition of Labor environmental reform, he said.
So the carbon tax is in their blood? Is it also in their nature to implement it against the wishes of the vast majority of people?
Mr Combet also cited efforts by the previous Hawke/Keating governments to protect the Franklin River, Antarctica, Kakadu and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as the Rudd government’s ratification of the Kyoto Protocol.
More bragging rights! We also have a pathological fear of dams and sacrifice jobs because we’re superstitious!
